There ARE a lot of gratuitous “Butt shots” in this one, and the women, especially the younger versions, are heavily sexualized. Still, that’s an important part of the plot— women in Hollywood HAVE to be young and sexy, once they hit 50, they get thrown out .
I'm very curious to see The Substance. I hear mixed reviews - some (like yours) are 'bloody, funny, over the top body horror', others are 'feminist horror using body horror to hammer its points', but others are much more negative 'too much male-gaze shots and sexualised nudity undermines the feminist tone, muddling the point and diminishing the impact so it's not bad but still disappointing'. Like I say, I've not seen it yet, but it's annoying interesting variety of views.
